How Ranking Works
Every player has a skill rating in each match sport of their club. You choose a starting tier once. After that, every match you play adjusts your rating automatically: you never have to change it yourself.
1
Choose your starting tier
When you join or create a club, you choose the tier that best matches your experience today:
100 points
Beginner
New to the sport, learning basic rules, serves and shot consistency.
200 points
Intermediate
Plays regularly, understands court positioning and strategy, and maintains consistent rallies.
300 points
Advanced
Highly competitive, strong shot accuracy, and tournament or structured league experience.
Don't worry about picking the perfect tier on Day 1. Your initial rating is just a starting line. As you play matches in your Club, your rating naturally adjusts based on your actual match results.
Not sure? Answer three quick questions and we'll suggest a tier. You can change your choice until your first rated match.
2
Each team's average
In doubles (2 vs 2), each team's rating is the average of its two players, using their ratings from before the match:
Team Average = (Player 1 Rating + Player 2 Rating) ÷ 2
Team A: 200 + 200
Average 200
Team B: 200 + 100
Average 150
3
The 20-point tolerance rule
We compare the two team averages to decide whether your opponents were higher, the same, or lower:
- Same average: the difference is 20 points or less, for example 200 vs 215, or 200 vs 220.
- Higher average: the opponents are more than 20 points higher, for example you 200, them 230.
- Lower average: the opponents are more than 20 points lower, for example you 200, them 175.
4
Points earned or lost
| Opponent | Win | Loss |
|---|---|---|
| Higher average | +20 Underdog bonus | −5 Protected loss |
| Same average | +10 Standard win | −10 Standard loss |
| Lower average | +5 Expected win | −20 Upset penalty |
Both players on the winning team get the same points, and both players on the losing team lose the same points. Each player's own rating changes by that amount. Everything is worked out from the ratings before the match, and each match counts once.
Example
Team A (200 + 200, average 200) plays Team B (200 + 100, average 150). Team B wins. Team A's average was 50 points higher, so Team B beat a higher-average team (+20 each) and Team A lost to a lower-average team (−20 each).
| Player | Before | Change | After |
|---|---|---|---|
| Player 1 (Team A) | 200 | −20 | 180 |
| Player 2 (Team A) | 200 | −20 | 180 |
| Player 3 (Team B) | 200 | +20 | 220 |
| Player 4 (Team B) | 100 | +20 | 120 |
Your rating corrects itself
Started too high? Pick Advanced (300) but keep losing to lower-average teams, and you drop 20 each time: 300 → 280 → 260 → 240, until your matches become balanced.
Started too low? Pick Beginner (100) but keep beating higher-average teams, and you gain 20 each time: 100 → 120 → 140 → 160 → 180 → 200, up to Intermediate.
Nobody is locked into a tier. Your current rating always comes from your actual match history.
Your level and profile
Your level follows your current rating:
- Beginner: below 200 points
- Intermediate: 200 to 299 points
- Advanced: 300 points and above
Your profile shows your current rating and level, the starting tier you chose, your rated matches, wins and losses, and how many points you've gained or lost since you started.
For every match you can see the result, your team's average, the opponents' average, whether they were Higher, Same or Lower, the points you earned or lost, and your rating before and after. For example: WIN · your team 150 vs 200 · Higher average · +20 · 100 → 120.
